Does this type of mod void the factory warranty?
I would also be willing to bet that any modest performance gain would not be that noticeable to the driver. Every car I have ever tinkered with from Supras to Supra turbos, MR2s, Mustangs, even my Explorer, had modified intakes. The only one that it seemed to make a difference on was my modified Supra Turbo in that I could hear the turbo spool down when I let off the throttle quickly.
