I dont know if anyone has found out the exact way that it gets this info, but it does use injector duty cycle, vacuum, and distance with likely more info.
so if you tell it that it is 2mpg off it will make the correction, likely regardless what the problem was. I would think that the distance in the equation would actually be the easiest fix. It always with 1mpg after it is calibrated in my experience
