The reason there is going to be a engine change is becuase asof 2006 the european fuel laws have changed in such a way that "Lean burn Direct Injection Petrol Engines" can be made.
BMW has already shown the official pictures of the technology on the N52
But not all markets have the correct fuel, the USA being one of them ( USA only gets the legislation in 2007 )
So there is confusion as to what will happen in each market
