I've got this with mine too (the car symbol showing and service due message). According to my idrive a service was due in January so I took the key to be read last month but BMW said that no service is due so it must mean the MOT, but my MOT isn't due until April!!
I was thinking about getting an interim service done anyway, if not I'll just wait for the MOT as Sytner said they charge £28 to do resets etc.
