Your stock 335xi shifter looks almost identical to the SSK except for the 2 things you mentioned (ball location and angle of the shifter).
On 2006 330xi stock shifter, it's more like the 335i ones than the 335xi.
The length of the 2006 330xi stock shifter is longer than the SSK shifter.
