I don't understand why people are surprised by this. You must understand the consequence of what you are doing when you modify a car, especially when you're working at the extremes of stock hardware... e.g. 150-200hp more through the turbos.

Scam? Hardly think I would every feel guilty in getting components covered by BMW that were caused by my modifications. BMW NA would take advantage of us so why not do the same? Besides, there may be some folks out there who have this sound, noted by the OP, who have not done any modifications their car.
