For those interested, I showed up and things looked better. But after moving the car into some harsher light I could see nothing was polished, just waxed. Probably some filler wax, but definitely not actually polished.
So, I told them that the swirls on a black car were a dealbreaker, or I wanted another $300 off the price (to have it polished). The gave me $200 and I took it; close enough.
So now I have the 08 335xi, and my wife an 07 G35-S. Both black
