Brake pad sensor Question

Yes I searched, and only found one thread that addressed this. Am I understanding this correctly, someone please...

I have about 50% pad life right now F&R. I just bought some Akebono Euro pads for the F&R. Do I need to buy new sensors? Or can I reuse them? I'm still not 100% sure if the new sensors start wearing during the pad life, or if the sensor "self destructs" to ignite the pad service light. I'm looking for a in depth description of how the sensors work.

Edit: After searching around on the net, looks like if the brake pad light never went off, the sensor is still good. The computer is computing it's predictions based on input from your driving and estimates it pretty much and then once the little sensor rubs off on the rotor, light comes on, you just bought a sensor. So I'm betting I can re-use my sensors and reset the brake pad service in the dash for each the F & R. So it's very similar to a GM oil light, minus the sensor that burns out on contact.
