My car at 85k miles now or 136,000km. Just changed the water pump and thermostat last week. I felt like I could have hit 100k miles without it failing..because my friend in Phoenix, AZ where the temp is a whole lot hotter than California got it to 102k miles before it stranded him.
Nonetheless, I took it upon myself to not take the risk and change it out. I still felt I did it 10-15k miles too early. But with your situation, being a 2009 model, you only made it 77k miles...
