I have the same issue too - it's very annoying.
I'd guess there's no way to change it - I suspect it's a bug/caveat and only fixable by bmw in a software update. It makes no sense for it to behave this way by default.
The question is, is there an update which addresses this issue, is there anyone out there who doesn't have this "feature"
