I had a cam chain fitted a couple of weeks ago after it was throwing up an exhaust cam sensor fault which I could read using my ODBII. No such codes being thrown up now.
I did replace the exhaust cam sensor prior to the chain, however it was 1/10th of the price that BMW wanted so doubt its OE. I still have the old one, think its worth throwing the old one back in to discount this as a problem??

Cam chain filter is different to crankshaft filter AFAIK.
I'd do what Kris mentioned to start with.
If no luck, then I will start looking at what you have changed recently.
For crankshaft sensor, you do get error but you cannot read that via generic obd reader. BMW tools (inpa) or Autologic.
It may read the code, one your car stops and fails to restart and engine light is on.
