Yeah, I am wondering a lot about my e90 too. The only repair i have had due to failure is my tail light. Mine is a 328 so I have less to worry about on the engine maintenance. The iDrive in my dads 10 year old 545 is still good so I think the e9X electronics should last at least that long
If you are going to buy your son a used 335i the only reason to sell would be to take out the equity now, set the expected cost in 5 years aside and spend the difference on track days to tune up your skills in the new Porsche. But you will never find a car you know is worth the money like yours is for your son.
