This is good info. I've always wondered if there is a separate mechanical drum brake for cars with 4-wheel disc brakes. Never had a need/chance to check. Now I know.
My two cents:
If she drove for 25 miles without noticing a burning smell, then the brake was not pulled very hard. Plus, if it was pulled very hard, the car would be difficult to drive--you'd have to keep the accelerator down, and a smooth stop would be nearly impossible.
Kinda makes me appreciate my wife a little more. I'll have to give her a hug later.
