I saw your post on the other forum. I really think the connector you are looking at is the shipping connector that is used to run the trunk release and various memories in the car while it is in transit from the factory. The BMW procedure for replacing the battery is very specific, and you can easily damage the IBS (negative cable) if you are not careful. Why not try and disconnect the battery, wait a few minutes and then reconnect everything.
