This was the same ticking sound AU335 had, right? I'm glad to hear that the solution is not that complicated and damaging to the engine.
Mr. 5-I think the easiest solution would to put a spacer in there, like you stated. I'm pretty sure you can pick up a rubber spacer at a local Home Depot or Lowes for under $1.
