base gas is bought and swapped by many companies. It is the additives that make it BRAND specific. At one refinery you can see 6 different company name trucks lined up for base gas (Pre-Additive). Its a commodity and Oil company's swap base gas to save on shipping all the time.

So it is the additive that makes it the Brand. But Additives can build up so it is suggested that every few thousand miles you switch your brand of gas so if you go to Shell for the first 5000 miles you should then go to Exxon for the next 5000 miles. Different additives remove additive build up of other brands.......LOL! So basically Base gas is pot luck! Its the additives that you are loyally buying.
