I just fixed this last weekend. I was sure the control arm bushings were shot but once I got the car up in the air the bushings looked fine. The front rotors looked pretty bad upon closer inspection. I replaced the rotors and all is well. From the looks of it there was some pretty bad pad deposits on the rotor.
I'm not sure if the previous owner changed to a different compound of pad and the old and new didn't agree or what.
