Lemme ask you guys this. Why is it that BMWs are unreliable in regards to other manufacturers? Don't get me wrong, I love'em, but they can engineer/manufacture their cars to be more reliable. Many brands FI their vehicles with minor problems. Even w/ my DSM, I never had a turbo/gasket/engine problems. I had transmission problems, but that's another story.
At times, I wonder if they under build certain parts to fail within a certain tolerance. Coming from working on the Corporate side of Hyundai, I do know they factor these things into their estimations of future profit on the maintenance side.
