The most common set ups we sell to our customers with E9x cars are: 18 inch staggered (8.5 ET35 front - 9.5 ET40 rear) and 19 inch staggered (8.5 ET35 front - 9.5 ET33). Some of our customers have even added spacers to get the wheels more flushed to their liking.
We also have sold the M3 set up (8.5 ET35 front - 9.5 ET20 rear) and square set ups (both 8.5 & 9.5) as well to our customers with E9x cars. It all depends on the look that the customer is going for.
