Are we forgetting that the 997s is almost twice the price of a PROcede 335i? By next year I imagine that one could have one frighteningly fast 335 with <10K in mods. The 997-S is one amazing, purpose built car, but with such a disparity in price, I'd seriously think about other things I could do with $40K. If I really wanted a Porsche, I'd buy a low mileage 02-03 996 Turbo for ~60K (Shiv's 02 test mule was just over 50K with ~40K miles) and add the forthcoming 996-T PROcede for a whopping (estimated minimum) 510whp and not look back.... then I'd spend that last 20K on hookers and blow.
