Correct, the sensor does not touch the rotor until 50% pad life. The CBS system will not increase pad life but it will not decrease until the sensor starts to wear.

If you reset the brake CBS without changing the sensor you will get a "car on a lift" warning and a "brakes at ---- km/mi" when you start the car.
