This I-6 was designed 5yrs ago, and with its composite block w/magnesium was a trend setter for lightness and performance. Plus, it cost $33k which is a whopping $7k-17k less than what you quoted.
I get 32mpg at 80mph steady cruise, 27-28mpg around town.
An automobile is about overall performance, not just straight-line times. When you can work an engine more and more often to extract more from an already sublime chassis, you don't need more grunt.
And Nissans (Infinitis) are no where near BMW in terms of overall refinement, solidity, and driving experience. They're fast, sure, and about the same price. But also larger and without the Teutonic feeling that only a German car can give you.
