I don't subscribe to this paranoia about a cradle.
If you have an empty cradle on the dash you've clearly take the phone away. The days of someone breaking in to a car because you may have a cradle on the dash somewhere have surely long gone with Sat Navs routinely available for <£100 now.
Get a brodit proclip and cradle setup for the phone and run a Sat Nav application. I have an iPhone version of CoPilot which is pretty good (even if the user interface is a bit shit). I have also been
very impressed with the free Sat Nav app called Navfree - visual presentation is not up to the standard of Copilot but functionally it is excellent - its integration with Google search is much better than Copilot.
