80 in a 40 won't look good in court. My advice is be honest, don't make up stories that can be disproven and make you look silly. If you had a genuine reason for the speed then for certain use it but if no reason just hold your hands up and seem very remorseful. Unfortately being late for something is not an excuse as they just consider that you should have left earlier and remember had you had an accident and killed someone at that speed you would be behind bars for death by reckless driving which is definitely the last thing your kids need.
Not wanting to sound high and mightly and hope it just comes across as realistic.
