Think about how people treat hire cars. Most are thrashed to within an inch of their lives as the car is not theirs so people just don't care. Now imagine that abuse x 10 and you might get to how journo's treat them. Probably revved from cold, spending a lot of time in the upper rev ranges, thrown round tracks at full attack speed putting extra wear on the suspension components.

Basically it's lived a lot harder life then I'd like, especially on a car which already has some expensive bits on it with the potential to throw up some big bills. For people saying an M5 is designed to take it, really? An M5 touring is just a big estate with more power than usual, it's not a track car. Personally I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
