Look at the screws holding the microfilter are they excessively worn?

a) Remove the microfilter
b) check if any of the clips holding the cables running over the engine are broken / damaged under the microfilter housing
c) if the clips @ the back of the microfilter housing are broken / damaged

If yes to the above then pull the ECU cover and check the wires / plugs etc for tell tail signs of a piggy back tune having been installed.

Also check the intake manifold, where the vacuum line nipple is. This is very fragile and easily broken by the $tealership when changing out HPFP's. Most are lazy and will simply glue it back on, which while it does last okay, means next time you fiddle with the vacuum hose it will break again.

Evidence of routine oil changes is a must as well, beyond the CBS sevices.

HPFP replaced under recall yet?

Is vehicle eligible for injectors / had them changed out?
