I would advise against the drill + finishing pad. You could burn through your paint if you are not careful. For the price of the Roybi, you are actually half way to a Porter Cable 7424X. A DA such as this will do a great job in light polishing (as you stated) safely and offer you the choice to do some bigger corrections down the road.

Trust me on this.... things happens.

Last week on the freeway, a small object fell off of a truck ahead of me. It bounced across 3 lanes and brushed against my bumper. It left me a with a scratch 3 inches long. Fortunately, it was not to the metal and I was able to rub it out with the PC.
