They have their purpose when tailored properly to the car airflow characteristics. NOT just a random piece of elasticated piping though and expect magic because you've heard of K&N panel filters so this must be good too. LOL.
For example. a company on the italian and french scenes, GSR Engineering. Can indepenantly dyno backup their product with 5-8% power gains on the 1-2.2 litre engines... Not bad for 200 notes in that case. But the viper and k&n kits lose significantly against the stock airboxes! Guess which kits sell better
