The check engine light has nothing to do with the DMTL pump....it's emissions related so it trips the SES light.
The CEL may have just been a coincidence.

You can test the pump with a BT tool. Set the purge valve to the closed position and run the pump....check for leaks or if the pump is running.
I also believe that P code points to a faulty pump but it could also be a leak. Faulty o-rings or a hole in one of the vent tubes. You really have to get your EVAP system smoked to check for leaks.
BTW, how do you guys over fill a gas tank? I've never had that happen to me.
