Go out for a drive on bizzy streets that you know will have a lot of red lights. Drive around for 30 - 40 minutes and you'll feel when the clutch engages. Then you will start taking off quicker on your own without even noticing.

About the downshifts. 3rd to 2nd was the most challenging for me and don't try to downshift from 2nd to 1st because you don't need to. Go on a highway and pay attention to what RPM you shift from 3rd to 4th. Once you do that remeber the RPM you should be at in 3rd gear. To downshift, hit the clutch, go to 3rd while raising the RPMs to the right amount and let off the clutch... not too quick though. This way you will have seamless downshifts and soon you wont look at your techometer and you will feel this too. I dont think you need to modify your CDV, just adapt to it and youll be fine. Its not as bad as everyone says it is.
