I'm at 50k and expect it to be normal maintenance item when the time comes.
No different than any other diesel or DI engine for that matter. I guess have been prepared for it whereas it has caught others by surprise.
What I want to know is what BMW thinks the buildup is doing. Neither the intake nor the EGR is getting plugged. I could see the car being down on power due to air restriction from serious build up.
The only preventative I can think of is investing in a fuel additive with the necessary detergents which will keep injector nozzles clean, avoid excessive
idling, switch to a 5w40 if you burn a lot of oil.
This afternoon I hope to pick up my car at the dealer and will try to get the scuttlebutt.
I'd like to see photos of these carboned engines.
