Yeah, this can stump the timid. Most people want to just pull on it. What it takes is a quick hard jerking motion upward. Its just a friction sleeve that holds it in place and by jerking up on the shifter it pops right off. Those who try to pull on it with steady pressure never get the momentum to get it off.
