In DS, it will start from a standing stop in 1st. If in D, it will only downshift to 2nd.
Try this...in D at a stop light, shift over to DS...you should feel a very slight thunk as the transmission shifts down from 2nd to 1st....still stopped, upshift to 2nd with the paddles or the shift lever, and you'll feel the transmission shift again. I feel the car "hunker down" a bit, when it shifts into 1st.
