The cable is the standard Apple cable used to charge/connect the iPod. The coding will enable the cd changer function in the car in order to use the mObridge interface on your BMW radio. Coding can be done at the dealer but will cost way more than an independent shop and the dealer probably wouldn't do it b/c you are not buying there OEM kit (aka paying more). Just make sure the shop has Autologic to code the car. There are 2 places I know can do it for you.
