The price of cars, in general, is a rip off IMO. When a Hyundai with decent amount of spec can cost £19-20k - then it's only right to expect a GTi to start in the mid to late 20's.

In regards to the R - depreciation elements to one side, I think the Edition 35 with a re-map would be a better option. The 4WD system is great and gives you a safety net. A planted feeling; but in my opinion, it zaps some of the enjoyment away from the car. Much like the Audi S's.

I've had 2 Mk5's now. The first was only a year old (after release) so I kept it basic to keep within my budget at the time. 17's, manual, cloth seats etc. I loved it to bits. I sandwiched 2 330d's in between the one I have now, which is the DSG version and loaded with options. For £5,800 - I just couldn't ignore the trader advert. I initially bought it for 6-8 months until I found something else - but it's been 14 months now and I still don't want to part with it.
