Everyone at these events started somewhere with people helping them along the way. We were all noobs at one point. Most of the people who post here live in PA/NJ so NJMP is our local track. The cost of the event depends on the track, days of the week, number of days and who is running the event. I have seen one days at NJMP for $185-$295 depending on the group.

A typical day goes like this:
1. Fill up with a full tank of gas before getting to the track.
2.Drive to the track sign in at main gate and the head to the paddock by the track.
3. Park and head to registration with your helmet.
4. Registration they will have you sign another waver, hand in emergency contact info, check your license, hand out schedule and run group and instructor assignments. Possibly check your helmet
5. Empty out your car completely and put your numbers on.
6. Head to day of tech with your tech form. Typically they require a more in depth pre-event tech inspection before the event.
7. Go back and park in your spot. Your instructor may come and find you there.
8. Drivers Meeting.
9. The organizers may have a time after this meeting for students to meet instructors.
10. Classroom time to talk about car control and more about hpde.

Hope this helps. Plenty of good people here willing to answer your questions.
