I have never heard of an AWD system that monitors wheel rotation based on weight. That just makes no sense, granted I am no engineer though. Depending on how much wear you had over 8 months, yes it can be that sensitive. Generally with AWD, it is good to replace tires all 4 at a time with the same brand and matching diamter if you go staggered. I think the exception would be if the tires have minimal wear. 8 months could be 10,000 miles. On our cars, that could be significant wear on the tire.
