At idle, it knows what 0% throttle is, and the kickdown button, it would be able to know what 100% throttle is, and then interpolate inbetween.
It would give a reason for that little detent button when you are WOT throttle though (unless that button gets wired directly to the tranny vs the ECU).
Do you MT guys have the button at the end of the petal stroke? If not, it would basically rended my ramblings above usless drool....

Yup, this is exactly what I think as well. This is also probably why some people see a difference, and others do not as it's about the pedal, not the tranny. And yes, the button is at the end of the stroke.
