My car is also a 2008 328i with the hifi system. When I removed my dash vent cover I had the plastic speaker holder in there. I think most here have had the same experience, you then have to replace the vent cover with the one with the speaker grill. The parts are different depending on whether you have idrive or not. Look on getbmwparts.com and you can order everything you need there.
