Cost for paint parts individually at your body shop?
2,000 m3 bumper

In reality, if they do pre-paint panels they should be able to match the paint with the car before painting the real car. No blending is needed. Clear coat sometimes is more yellow than clear so it changes the color slightly.

He just said it was 1900 to paint all of those. What body shop charges that much to paint? And honestly $750 to buy all the parts and DIY, I would pay the extra $1150 to have the shop paint and blend my car for me. Takes stress off of my everyday life and most of us dont have time to do all that. And with a DIY its really hard to get your paint to match correctly, reminds me of the time I took had some mobile guy come to paint of of my panels that had scratches on it.  |
I was exaggerating the cost of his shop because I see posts like this all the time. If he borrowed a compressor and gun, it would only cost the $158 . People spend crazy amounts of money to have body shops do this kind of work and colors still do not match. Do you think blending is not going to like new fresh paint while other parts not painted ? For example, his front bumper will blend into the fenders and rear into the quarter panel. They may not do his door. Therefore it may look older or more orange peel, or less orange peel, or color difference .
So just let me reiterate that most body shops do a pre-paint panel to color match . It is very much more time and labor intensive to sand every panel to blend.
I would gladly take $1900 to spray his parts over 5 times to his liking and pocket $1000.
And not only that, once you buy the stuff, you can spray rims instead of plastic dipping. You can retouch up and curb scrapes without paying to redo it.
Overall, $1900 is fairly decent considering they will keep you car for a week, sanding, prepping, and painting.
Also another reason for not blending panels is some people lease the car.
