Is there a trick im missing? all the diy guides say that you can simply take them out with a screw driver and then popping them out with your hands. but it just won't work damn it...

I used nylon prying tools when I installed mine. When pulling them out, I used two tools to pry on each side and pull it it out using both tools while holding on the plug with my thumbs (so that I don't get in the face when plug pops out).
