Cost savings as well as some unobtanium parts that leave you with no choice, or the choice is made in china and breaks something else in the car just by placing it under the lid
A water pump does not seam like an item that would be so complicated as to not be able to replace some bearings, seals, and diaphragms. Thoughts?
Most of the water pump failures with the 2006 E90s are due to electrical failures not mechanical ones. The pump is electrically driven and the electronics go out due to engine heat.
