The question is a bit academic now, see my later post.

Having said that the theory behind buying one was that if the fuel pump goes while I'm there they won't be able to fix it because they won't get the parts. That means either the car stays there till it's fixed or it gets repatriated. Either way its a pain in the ar5e for me so I'd rather spend the £800 and have them fix it there and then. I would have then claimed the cost of the pump back from BMW GB.
