Before swapping out any of these components it is always worth retorquing the bolt that connects the intermediate shaft to the rack first. There have been reports that this bolt (aluminum) stretches a bit over time and causes these same symptoms as it allows for some marginal play between the two parts. Just don't go crazy with it since it's technically a one-time-use bolt. I plan on retorquing mine this weekend first before digging deeper.
