I had problems with my car throwing the check engine light. Stop the car and start again and the CEL would not be on ..... until it happened again.
I took it to the dealer and they checked to see what codes had been thrown. Fortunately there was a service bulletin out on this. Apparently this was a bear to diagnose pre-service bulliten. The problem was described to me as "a seal does not provide enough oil pressure to the Vanos system. No damage is done but the condition triggers the CEL. The job to replace the seal is no small one. Cam(s?) are removed as part of the process. I saw the job midway.
In any case, now there are no issues save the 29.2 debacle.
