That would be the sort of sound it would make. I remember a friend of mine changes a cam belt on a Mk111 Escort and fitted it too tightly and that made a similar noise to what I hear. I didn't notice the sound in the warmer summer months so I recon you could be right

Won't the belt slip if I spray lubricant on it ?
