Consider the money lost for good, but you should file a police report. You have a better chance of catching this person if you know the serial numbers. But I doubt this person is going to deposit the money in the bank.
The FBI won't even deal with you for $300. Also, the police is not going to question everyone depositing a stack of 2's unless the serial numbers matched.
