I could be wrong, but I've been under the impression that US model BMWs that are equipped with Adaptive Headlights make sure the DRIVER'S side headlight will not turn to the left if the car is turned to the left.
The reasoning behind it, I believe, is because if you are on the shoulder of the road, and you pull back into traffic, the driver's side headlight stays centered so you don't blind oncoming traffic.
