Between the two options listed, I'd go with the 16-35L. However, that is because I mostly shoot wide angle and with a crop I need as wide a lens as I can get. 24-70 is a more versatile range. If I remember correctly the 7D's crop factor is 1.3, not 1.6 like the other crop cams from Canon. That'll help a little at the wide end but not by too much....unless the 7D's replacement has less of a crop factor.
