As the DMFW ages they become imbalanced.
A fresh DMFW can probably handle over 500HP for quite sometime, exactly how much or how long I'm not sure.
If it's worth it to you to keep the DMFW, I'd try a new DMFW.
As far as someone upgrading them further, I'm sure it's possible but I honestly don't know any company in development.
